THE POLICE SHARES EXPERIENCE IN COMBATING COVID-19 WITH THE AMERICAS
EL PACTO: Support to Ameripol has organised a videoconference between the National Police and 68 Ameripol units
To slow down the spread of covid-19 by sharing best practices from the European Union to the Latin American region in a global pandemic context. With this purpose, the National Police has shared, through a videoconference, its experience in the development and adaptation of water cannon trucks to be used in the fight against covid-19.
The videoconference was organised by the Support to Ameripol, a project financed by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP. The virtual meeting was attended by 68 specialised police units from 15 member countries of Ameripol, the Americas’ police community.
The videoconference allowed the Spanish police to explain to Ameripol members the operation of a device with nozzles that adapt to the water cannon trucks and convert the disinfectant solution into particles of the same size as the virus, which allows for more effective sanitisation.
This equipment has been developed by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Alcalá de Henares through the European project Counterfog.
In addition, Spanish police specialists have also shared their experiences regarding protocols for use, priority locations, frequency, necessary products, levels and percentages of dissolution, use of individual protection equipment by specialised police units, adaptation of the system by users to their realities or adaptation of devices to water launchers, fire trucks and cleaning services, among others.
Together with the National Police and Ameripol members, the videoconference was also attended by several representatives of the European Commission (DEVCO) and EUROPOL.
